Korean Metaverse Project Another World Merges with Lamina1
According to The Block: The metaverse project Lamina1, co-founded by Neal Stephenson, is merging with the Korean Web3 company Another World.
This initiative comes after Open Metaverse Limited, the parent company of Lamina1, completed the ‘full token transaction’ acquisition of Another World.
Lamina1, a metaverse project founded by Neal Stephenson, the author of (Snow Crash), announced its merger with Another World on Wednesday.
Another World is a Korean metaverse project built on the Kaia blockchain in 2022, which will become part of the Lamina1 ecosystem. According to the statement, the parent company of Lamina1, Open Metaverse Limited, acquired Another World through a ‘full token transaction.’
In the coming weeks, Lamina1 plans to migrate ‘over 500,000 token holders, investors, metaverse builders, developers, and enthusiasts of Another World to the L1 ecosystem’ through token exchanges and targeted onboarding to activate their community. Employees of Another World will join Lamina1 to work on building the Lamina1 Hub platform.
Rebecca Barkin became the CEO of Lamina1 in early 2023. In addition to Stephenson, Lamina1 was co-founded by Peter Vessenes, a co-founder of the Bitcoin Foundation. Supporters of Lamina1 include Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, and Ripple.
Overall, since Mark Zuckerberg decided to rename his tech empire to Meta, interest in the metaverse seems to have declined. However, several companies, including Lamina1, Decentraland, and The Sandbox, continue to develop their ecosystems, hoping for exponential growth in the metaverse in the coming years.
In its post, Lamina1 stated: ‘Another World has prototyped and developed several on-chain/open metaverse experiences over the past two years, including the M2E app ‘GROUNDI’, which has been downloaded over 150,000 times, an exciting racing game ‘NO ONE ESCAPE’, and a mini-game center Another Arcade, which ranked in the top ten of all apps on Google Play.’
Lamina1 also stated that Another World’s AWM token holders ‘will have 9 months to convert their tokens to L1 and begin activating within the L1 ecosystem.’
